San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles has taken down all quilt displays and turned over its galleries to the weaving arts – in particular, contemporary tapestries – for three months’ worth of exhibits (through April 16). Besides viewing the 36 global tapestries of the American Tapestry Biennial and the edgy works of renowned artist Lia Cook, visitors can try their hand at weaving too as part of the interactive projects.
Artist-in-esidence Cristina Velazquez invites patrons to participate in a project inspired by Native American dreamcatchers, a willow hoop decorated with a spider web design as well as feathers and beads. The artist will be in the Maker Space studio on Wednesdays 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and on First Fridays 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
